sm56 error

Upon boot-up, I get the message: "Cannot register with
sm56 driver". I am now using my LAN connection
exclusively and do not need the sm56 modem, in fact, I
have removed the modem card altogether. How can I remove
this boot-up error?

If you check the Run key, do you see any entries relating to sm56? If so,
delete them

Does your modem software provide an uninstall utility for it's drivers? If
so, use it.
