Slowing Network

T

Thomas Higgins

Hi All,

A few network Qs. I reformat my PC often, because (as
windows does) it gets bogged down from time to time.
However currently im experiencing somthing i dont usually
get, really slow home network browsing.

I used to be able to connect to other PCs on my LAN
quickly and was able to pull off the files i needed. Now
this takes forever, searching a workgroup, connecting to
a PC takes AGES.

It also seems to me, that when I go over to other peoples
places, when they try and access my machine it takes
exceedingly long.

I have NO spyware, worms or viruses. Every computer i
contact is over a 100 network with a switch. I'm
wondering what the problem is, has it got to do with wins?

Plus, I have a Mandrake 10 Box on my network that i
connect to from time to time. I also have difficulties
connecting to it, as in the network bogs down. However
after the length of initial connection, the browsing is
fast, and it instant to connect to it again.

Can someone please shed some light on this issue!

Thanks!

many possibilities. it could be master browser issue; or hardware settings
issue.
