slowdown in opening files and popup menu

I think you've got a bad case of "computer under-load
syndrome" (I just made that up don't use it anywhere else,
unless you want to sound like an idiot too). Try a test,
bring up the task manager (the easy way is the press
Ctrl+Alt+Delete), then look at the bottom of the window
and see how many processes are running. Then try all this
again after you've gotten on the network. If that number
is huge, then we've found your problem. You see, the more
running processes the more drain on your system's
resources. Not good. And when you're on a network, your
computer running processes usually skyrocket. See if you
can changes the preferences on some programs to stop them
from starting when you boot up. But make sure you don't
need these programs all the time. Or else you might try to
mess with something and the program that's usually there
to handle it, isn't there. Good luck!

I think my post made it sound like I'm a novice but I've
been using Windows for many years. I believe this
problem is a bug in Office 2002 or something like that.
My company has a Systems group and they could not solve
the problem either.
