After Reinstalling XP due to crash Shutdown takes over 3 minutes, Says
Saving ***** then shuts down normally.
Following from Event Log

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Userenv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1517
Description: Windows saved user ComputerName\UserName registry while
an Application or Service was still using the registry during Log Off. The
memory used by the user's registry ras not been freed. The registry will be
unloaded when it is no longer in use. This is caused by services running as
a user account, Try configuring the services to run in either the
LocalService or NetworkService account.

I don't have a clue as to what or how to try to accomplish the suggestion!!!!

Help anyone?? JohnWK

Mark, Thanks for the response, I have been through the information that your
address provided. Just didn't know how to configure the services to run the
LocalServices or NetworkServices as Microsoft's fix suggested. However I
have determined by trial and error that the problem is caused by ZoneAlarm
Security Suite Which includes Anti Virus as well as Anti Spyware and Firewall
plus other excellent features. I previousely was Using Zone Alarm Pro which
didn't have Anti Virus worked OK with no problem with a different anti virus
program. I thought, as some have reccomended to get everything in one
package. I have Informed Zone Labs of the problem for their solution. In
the meantime I just Shut off Zone Alarm before shutting down to avoid the
annoying delay.

When I had the problem I just downloaded UPHClean as the KB article
suggested in its resolution section.. That took carry of the problem for me.

Mark, Windows troubleshooter took me to that route but UPHClean didn't
solve the problem. By the process of elimination I traced it to ZoneAlarm.
The reason that it caused me difficulty is that before I could use the anti
virus with Zone Alarm I had to uninstall Computer Associates Anti Virus but
the Control panel\Add and remove method did not work. CA's 7 pages of
instruction on how to manually uninstall their Anti Virus caused Windows to
malfunction. Had to write 0's to hard drive and reinstall XP then Install
Zone alarm. So I did 2 things and it didn't occur to me that it was the new
Zone Alarm causing the problem.
