Slow word processing

We just bought a new eMachine with the Windows XP home edition and Microsoft Works 7.0. The program response time is very slow. Trying to type a article takes for ever. Characters typed appear 3 to 8 seconds after entered on the keyboard. What could this be? I tried all the task laucnhers (cards, budget, etc) and they are all slow in responding. with a 3000+ AMD Athlon XP Processor and 160gb on hard drive this thing should fly. Help. Rhonda G.

not really...how much memory do you have.....possibly start partitioning
that huge hard drive...
