Hello, I am currently waiting more than 10-15 minutes for
my computer running windows 2000 professional to restart
or boot up cold.
It is a recent problem only starting within the last few
weeks. I didnt install any new software on the server.
It is not only on 1 pc ..but rather on all the pc's in the
office running win 2000 prof. (the machines running xp or
98se are unaffected by this slow startup scenerio).
So during my troubleshooting procedure i unplugged the
network cable during the long startup process, and within
20-30 seconds the comuter boots up properly, which leads
me to believe that it is a networking isuue.
Does anybody have any advice on how to solve this problem??
thanks for any help,
---daniel

I tend to agree - this is probably a networking issue. In most
cases it is caused by a inappropriate DNS setting, causing
the workstation to look in the wrong place for the server until
it times out.

do you have a solution?

.

Review your workstation TCP/IP settings to make sure that
the DNS address points to your Domain Name Server and
not at some Internet site.

I am running DHCP on the server..so there are no settings
in the tcp/ip window on the server or client. what should
they be??
thanks

Even when running under DHCP, you can set your DNS
address manually. Try setting it to the address of the
domain controller that validates your users.

where do i find that info?
