Slow startup in Outlook

My boss has a laptop where the hard drive is full enough to warrant him
buying an external HD. He says that when his pc was new and empty Outlook
ran fast, but now when the HD is getting full, Outlook starts and runs slow.

What could be the cause and fix? He is on XP.

Time to put some maneuvering room on the harddrive. Clean some of the
old stuff off.

When the computer was new, Outlook had little or nothing to keep track
of. Now it's probably got many gigabytes of email, appointments,
whatever else he's been packing in there. So delete old and unused
stuff.
