It takes forever for even my icons to appear and then when I click on
anything it takes forever, what could be wrong. I just recently installed
Norton and Spysweeper could something hear be the problem?

It could be Service Startup issue(s). I would check the Event logs
for both System and Application, checking for errors. Symantec
has allot of dependant Services, that if not started in a proper order
will cause Service Timeouts. (3000 mS or 3.0 Seconds each).
If your system has minimal memory, installing Symantec is going to
take a fairly large allocation of memory for itself. This can account
for the performance "Lag" you describe.
You should also bring up TaskMgr and check the PF meter. A
normal (if there is such a thing) value should be around 170-220
Megabytes.

What is service setup and how do I check the event logs for the system and
application? I have no idea what I am looking for, very computer brain dead,
no nothing, please help step by step is possible..

Windows XP has something called the Microsoft Management
Console. You access this a number of different ways. Easiest
perhaps is Right Click My Computer and then Left Click Manage.
Within the MMC, are a number of Console Support modules,
Called Snap-Ins.
When the MMC opens it will have a small window size, so the
first thing to do is Maximize it. It has the same layout as Windows
Explorer (Split-Pane View).
In the Left Pane are the category views. (With + Symbols)
Under System Tools, Click the + beside Event Viewer. One at a
time Left Click System (or Application) Then look in the Right Pane
You are interested in finding entries with a Red Icon, that denotes
an Error. Double-Click each Red Icon. A small Details box will
appear that gives a "Nutshell" Description of the event and also
a numerical Event ID#.
The Logs carry many days of entries. What you should do is clear
both System and Application logs. Right Click both the Application
and System Headers in the Left Pane. A context menu will open.
Left Click the option "Clear Log" and answer N to saving data.
Do this for both logs and then Reboot your Computer. After it is
rebooted - Recheck the logs and you'll see exactly what is happening
during your PC's boot up.

I did as you said and I rebooted, I hope that means restart because that is
what I did and it still has errors there is this what I am supposed to have,
I do not know, or what I am looking for at this point, and it is takin

No error(s) should exist in either System or the Application logs.
There will always be Informational type entries, but are normal.
The process for resolving this is pretty complicated and takes a
fair amount of time.

Do you have a neighbor or friend who is computer literate ?, if
this is due to Symantec I would uninstall it - Return for refund &
get a Free year of eTrust and install Zone Alarm Free on your
system.

I wished I could give you a simple/straightforward solution, but
that just isn't always possible working with PCs.

If I wasn't busy with another Remote Assistance session for a
customer, I'd offer to look at it remotely just to diagnose the error(s.)
for you.

you can also go to start/run/ type in msconfig/ go to start up tab see if
there is anything there you dont need starting when computer is first turned
on
ie' msn messenger/yahoo messenger/quick time/ etc will require restart of
computer.. after restart a window will pop up saying you have changed system
config.. just click dont show again..DO NOT shut off anti virus software etc
if you left click on "little dimple" next to location and drag to the right
it will expand so you can see full file path of program

Installing Norton and subjecting yourself to its startup activities
sounds quite a likely cause
