slow shut down windows xp

Hello I hope you could help me. Lately when i go to shut
down my computer (xp) it is real slow, real slow. Do not
know why, it has just started doing this and also my
screensaver will just change to a blank blue screen.
Actually now it just turned pink on the taskbar without me
even changing it. CAn you help me, hurricane is coming and
making sure everything is okay before shutting down.
