I have a Intel Cleron 2.4 GHz machine with 768 Mb RAM. I have a USB 56K
external modem. I run Windows XP Sp2 (plus all patches etc) I also run
Office XP (with all up to date patches etc) My Antivirus software is Nortons
Antivirus 2005 (I used to run Macaffee until that stopped working and I
uninstalled it and insatlled Nortons) My problem is Outlook 2002. It is
unbelievably slow. Some times it will launch fine and then go to a blank
screen which stays there for a long time before displaying the inbox. If I
then select a message to view it takes forever to open. I have reinstalled
both Office and Nortons to try overcome the problem as it was suggested the
delay may be sue to a scan in progress. The delay in opening the mail is
reaaly unacceptably long. On ocasion everything seems to come right only to
go wrong with the next message. I have also noted that when shutting down
Outlook does not close automatically and has to be shut manually. Mozilla
Thunderburd does not seem to have the same problem

Can anyone suggest a solution, please?

Temporarily disable NAV and see if that changes anything.

Hi

I have tried that by diabling Autoprotect but it still does not help. I
tried turning off the preview pane but that does not help. When I referred
the problem to my ISP they suggested it was a scanning problem but I cannot
see what is scanning what. I also run Microsoft Antispyware. Could this be
the problem?
