Slow Response

Bizzare, whenever I open a web page in IE it paints the
screen almost immediately but then locks up for 30-45
seconds before you can click anything. The cursor moves
but you cannot select another link, menu items, scroll
bar, address bar ... nothing can be clicked on. The
progress bar will show about 95% when this first locks
up then will change to 100% (go blank), but IE6 remains
locked for 20-30 seconds more. The only thing I'm able
to do is select another application (word, excel, etc.)
which will work fine.

This occurs on all pages/URLs. I tied changing virtual
memory setting, IE options to auto-detect, I unplugged
my wireless hub and cable modem (now, I'm just connected
to the cable modem). I deleted all offline content,
history and even cookies but no change. This is painful
please help if able.

I'm running IE 6 and updates are current; on an ME 4.90
wih 512K RAM; using about 5GB of 30GB. Scandisk checked
out okay, and I am virus free.

Also, my other computer works fine through the same ISP
connection.

Bmac,
I had what I believe was the same problem. I connected at
53 kbps but pages were so slow to load. This also
happened on my other computer. Seemed to occur after I
installed security update KB810217 from Microsoft update.
I contacted their support and was told that the update
can conflict because of other third party applications
that I may have installed. They told me to go to control
panel, select remove programs and uninstall the update.
Things have worked much better now. Hope this may help.

Jim
