Slow Performance On WinXP

XP doesn't provide the full DOS capability of previous versions. It may
well be just the way it its. What is the 16-bit application? Paradox?
Have you checked with the vendor? Do they provide patches/updates? Have
you tried installing the app via the Comaptibility Wizard? Is it a
memory config issue (I have a vague recollection of some versions of
Paradox requiring specific memory settings in config.sys ... check the
documentation)?

Is it required that you update to XP? Why not stay at current OS for
those computers requiring this application? If you must use XP, maybe
install inside of DOS running in Micorosft Virtual PC?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

We have some 16bit application that where running fine under win95, win98,
win2000. When we upgraded our PC's to WinXP, we noticed that these
application became slow (specially when opening the tables and closing the
tables). The tables are paradox table and the data are shared on a network
drive. The net dir is on the server.
Can anyone help ? (I think this happen to 32 bit application also)

We use only TCP/IP.

now that it is releated to the way XP
communicate to the server, because when I copy the data files into the local
machine, the application become acceptable.

It's probably (hunch) more related to how the BDE (Borland Database
Engine) connects inside of XP. Your BDE could be old. Did you consult
withe application developer and look at the site of the development tool
for clues). Are there updates available for XP? Do other users of the
same software have the same issue on XP?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

It is a 16bit Windows application that connect to paradox tables via the
BDE.
when I copy the data files into the local machine, the application become
acceptable . So I think it is something related to the way WindowsXP Connect
to the network drive.
I tried to run the application in Windows95 Compatability mode , but this
didn't change anything.
