Slow performance on network

I understand that when running an access 2003 database over a network the
performance can be slow connecting to the backend to retrieve data especially
when other locations outside my office will be using it.

I read that when you access the database you can have the database connect
to a generic table in the backend that will stay connected to the front end
and this will help the performance.

Would someone explain to me how to do this or if there is a better way to
help performance I'd certainly like the suggestion.

Thanks!
