Slow network performance when copying files

Hi,
I'm attempting to move very large files over my 100 mpbs network connection
from an XP computer, and the copy moves very very slow. It seems to cap out
at 500 kBps for some reason while it should be moving at 10-20 times that
speed. It's almost as if it thinks that my network is capped at that speed
because of the internet connection. If anyone knows of any fixes, I'd
appreciate it.

hi,
have you any wireless elements to your network configuration. i ran into
similar symptoms as you describe, with 2 connections on my computer, one LAN
and one Wifi. the LAN connection degraded itself to about 1mbit because of
the Wifi connection. the fix was to run a windows networking command to
disable this 'compatibility mode' on the LAN connection. although i haven't
been able to find exactly what it was since it was so long ago.

might be of use if you have that configuration...

Hmmm this is very possibly the case. I do have a wireless connection, but I
have it turned off at the moment to ensure that it uses my local area
connection. Does nayone else know what command I'd need to use to disable
this compatibility mode?

Hello,

Does nayone else know what command I'd need to use to disable
this compatibility mode?

- Click start
- Type: cmd
- Right-click cmd.exe when it appears under programs
- Click Run As Administrator
- Type: netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
- Press enter
- Restart your computer

wow, it worked and solved my slow network problems.
I suspect there is a problem with vista and checkpoint firewall-1

Same problem here, I get 5 MB/sec if I'm lucky, very frustrating, running
Ultimate, brand new pc - I've tried everything I could find on the Web but no
luck - thinking about going back to XP unless this is solved. Slooow on
network server and on NAS drive...l

Yes, this problem is very annoying, and unresolvable as near as I can tell.
Some research I've come across suggests that there is some other device on
the network which is not compatible with the new technologies in Vista, and
so it falls back to that level.

One thing I've learned for sure, though, is not to try and "lock" the
settings at 100MB Full duplex -- this REALLY cripples it!!!!

One of these days maybe I'll call in my MS support incidents on this!!!!
