slow modem after upgrade

last week my modem speed was 46 - 49 Kbps. I downloaded
the free microsoft upgrade and now modem speed is
26.4 ! ! what gives ?

Speeds are going to vary depending on network congestion, and how busy the
site is you are connecting to.

Is that the speed of the connection as reported by windows xp, or have you
used a speed test such as
http://homepage.tinet.ie/~leslie/testpage.htm

I've never taken much notice of the speed reported by windows. I have a
1Mbps adsl connection which windows reports as 2.8Mbps

Measure the speed at the above site.
