slow / long startup time xp home

In the last week, i am getting 7 to 10 minute windows xp home edition sp1+
startup times. it used to take 30 seconds.

applied kb833987, kb883357 and kb873374 in the last week. used system
restore to back off and no difference.

using p4 1.6mhz 40 gb hard drive. checked adaware, spybot and grisoft and
all virus, etc clean. have cleaned temp, history and cookie files and run
disk cleanup and defrag.

Any idea's where to look next? Thanks in advance.
