slow logon after installing ad client extensions

We were having account problems on our 9x machines after
upgrading our servers to win2000. We solved this problem
by installing ad client extensions. Now when a user logs
on it takes a lot longer to authenticate. Has anyone
seen this before or know of a solution?

We have 23 AD servers with approx 13000 9x clients.
After our 2000 migration we had a problem whereby user
accounts were being locked out while they were logged on
to the network by multiple authentication attempts from
the client machine. WINS is installed on the servers, we
were unable to use ALTOOLS to determine what process may
have been trying to authenticate with the servers as they
dont work on 9x machines. We tried patching some test
machines with the AD client on the msn website which
didnt work. After opening up a call with Microsoft they
sent us an updated version of AD client which solved the
problem. Now when users logon it takes a lot longer to
authenticate.
