Slow loading of Word 2003

I use word 2003 and Windows XP. Word takes for ever to load, and nearly as
long to close. What can I do about it. The problem has got worse since
downloading the latest version of Adobe Reader. This doesn't always work
either.

Thank you. The solution turned out to be in paragraph 2 a) i) - I had 2
Normal.dot files, one preceded by a funny squiggle, so I deleted that and all
seems to be well.

That's just the owner file; it will be recreated when you restart Word.
