Slow Install

I have a pc that crashed and am trying to reinstall Windows XP Pro. It is a
1.3 Duron in an MSI mobo with 256mb of ram. When trying to reinstall the os
it is like slow motion. The partitioning and formatting are ok but from
there on it is slow. It takes at least an hour to copy the files needed for
install. Then the install never does complete. It runs for hours
installing the os. I tried a different hd and cd rom and still the same.
It recognizes the cpu and memory correctly on boot. Any ideas cpu, mobo?
thanks, Ray

Have you tested the memory?

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:
