slow folder opening

when I use windows explorer or a MS Office product and Im
trying to open a drive & folder it takes 10 to 15 seconds.
I'm usings Office XP and Office XP. I have a Pentium 3 733
mHz processor. The problem isn't the processor or memory,
because they used to open quickly. What can I do to
increase the speed at which these files in the drives and
folders are displaye?
