I experiencing this strange problem where it take over 5mins to open a
network folder mapped to a Network drive via My Computer.
There doesn't seem to be much activity on the network connection only
occassional packets going back and forth, so what can cause this
problem.

Also, when I work from home and am not connected to the VPN. If I open
My Computer it takes forever to open it and eventually hangs
explorer.exe. I have never seen this kind of issue on XP machines. If
the drive is not connected it simply shows as disconnected.

And even when I am connected to the office VPN it takes an eternity to
open my computer.

The laptop I have is a IBM 1.8GHZ Centrino Duo with 1.5GB ram and
running XP Pro with SP2.

Appreciate any help that you can provide.

In Addition, I've tried the hotfix KB841978 that I obtained from
Microsoft but no joy.

Also found a work around that recommended deleting all the shortcuts
from My Network Place which can cause problems when browsing network
drives.

Hi did you manage to fix your problem? Having exactly the same problem and
searching all over the net/newgroups without success.
