I am running xp pro on a Compaq P2 450 128ram...My wife is running xp pro on
an Award P2 400 128ram...Hers boots very quick while mine boots like a
snail...Hangs on the welcome screen...I've checked running apps and so forth
and see anything unsual there...Any ideas?

Firstly, run a defrag of you C: drive.
Secondly, check in your eventlogs (Start -- Run -- EVENTVWR) for any obvious
errors such as devices failing to initialize.

The first thing that I would suggest looking at is memory. I would never use
less than 512 MB in a 400 or 450 with XP. (Actually, I would never use XP in
a machine slower than 1.4 GHz). The speed of the installed memory could be a
factor. If your wife has EDO and you have FPM RAM installed, you could notice
a difference.

Being that they are very old machines, the second thing that came to mind is
hard drive speed. If your wife's machine has a 7200 RPM drive and yours has a
5400 RPM drive, you would notice a substantial difference in speed. If they
are both newer 7200 RPM drives, the problems is elsewhere.

Have you updated your BIOS? I just rebuilt an NT Server machine and after
updating the BIOS, there was a significant increase in boot speed.
