Slow Boot - XP

Hi,

I have a Dell desktop about 1 yr old that boots up very slow.
After the desktop is shown, I can't do anything for 1 min and 45
seconds, then the windows startup music starts and then It's OK.

If I boot into safe mode then it boots up normal.

I went into MSConfig and unchecked everything, yet I still have the
slow boot up. I have also looked in the device manager and there is
no instances of yellow cautions or double instances, in either normal
boot or safe mode boot.

I'm almost at the point of re-formatting.
Any recommendations?

Thanks,

James

If it is a celeron processor there is little you can do.
But check to see what programs are starting upon
startup. Also check for viruses(most likely).

I've done the virus check, it has Norton on it plus I ran Trend Mirco.
The processor is a 2.4 Gig P4.
I'm not sure how to tell exactly what programs are starting up.
