I put together a new system; MSI MB, amd 64, 3000+, sata HD, pci video card,
1 gb ram. When I cold boot, it shows the drives, system info etc, but then
blacks out for about 2 minutes before windows comes up. If I push the reset
button after the black screen comes up, I get a screen asking if I want to
boot normally or in safe mode, I respond and it boots up normally. Any
ideas??? Thanks.

Run Disk Defragmenter in safe Mode.

Check for driver issues in Start, Control Panel, Hardware Device
Manager.

Look at the Error Reports in Event Viewer and post copies here.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event
ID, Source
and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the
error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two
pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your
message
(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make
sure this is
the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

If you help with these errors and warnings that would be great. I am
running an HP ZD8110 Notebook with MS XP PRO SP2 Media Center.

under System:

operation.
loLogMsg.dll Event ID 51 version 5.1.2600.0

Error The device, \Device\CdRom0, has a bad block.

it repeats the error about 15 times
