Slooow laptop, nothing using CPU?

George Marshall

My Win2000 laptop overnight developed such a severe performance problem
(10x-50x slower than normal) that it is essentially unusable. Norton
System Doctor says CPU utilization is about zero, and the Task Manager
doesn't show anything but the idle process consuming CPU cycles.

It has up-to-date Norton Virus definitions, and I've scanned it with
both Spybot and Adaware, no help.

Any ideas where to look?

Thanks,

george

Thats a tough one. I would first check and see if Windows reports the
processor at the correct spend. Also does it see all the memory. Then I
would check the sytem event log for any errors. Go into your BIOS and
verify that your cache is enabled.
