Slooooow hibernate shutdown

All of a sudden, the blue bars advance very slowly. It takes about 4 mins to
get into the hibernate state. The hard drive is on constantly during this
time.

Any ideas are very much appreciated,

Turn off your hibernation and any other dumb screen
saver you have. All it does is foul up your good
programs.

Those selling screen savers exploit your fears of
screen burn which has merit, but what they don't say
is, maybe after 7 years on the same image (testing
showed screen burn after 7 years). I would
safely say, you could easily leave your monitor on
the same page, same image for 12 months, and it would
not hurt your CRT screen.

Leave your computer on 24/7 ? then use the monitors
on/off switch.

Those using a MacIntosh, will solve many of their
system problems by getting rid of any screen
savers and turning off any hibernation. (That's is a
little *trick* most Mac users don't know about)

Beginning about 2 months ago my Hibernate mode began to take F O R E V E R (8
min) to shut down. Previous to this it worked fine for a couple years. I do
not recall installing anythin around that time, other than typical automated
windowsa updates.
I'd love a solution other than formatting Hard Drive and reinstalling
everything... at least 80 Gigs of software and 120G of data.... it'll be a
tiring job.
