slides appear on laptop and projector but not together

When toggling between laptop and projector I can only get the slide to show
on either the laptop screen or projector screen. But not on both at once,
therefore controlling the show is difficult particularly if the projector
screen is some distance from the laptop. I am using a "Dell Inspiron 1300"
When toggling three icons appear to switch between screens, the icon
depicting 2 monitors when activated shifts slide to laptop. The other icons
work properly.

This is probably a hardware issue. You might want to call Dell. You might
also try updating your video card drivers.

However, also see http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00467.htm for some
things to try. (I realize you didn't say anything about video, and this FAQ
is about video not playing on the projector and the laptop -- but it *is*
about something not showing on both the projector and the laptop.)
