Slide master -- layout

Does anyone know how to apply a "slide layout" to the master slide? I a
creating a presentation which has 40 slides in it. Each slide contain
a text box with a name, and a photo. I want both of these to fly i
from the left, stop for a second, then fly out to the right.

Unfortunately, even though I have applied custom animation, the tex
and photo are not quite obeying properly. The program will not allow m
to group both objects, and even though I have set it to animate "wit
previous", the text seems to be sneaking off the page before th
photo!

Instead of tinkering with custom animation on each page, I'd reall
like to take care of all this in the master and have it automaticall
apply to each slide -- but when I open the master, and open "slid
layout", all the selections are greyed out.

What gives?

Hi Sherri

Apply your slide layout before you go into master view - that will get you a
text box that you can apply custom animation to, and can change on every
slide.

This will work if you want the same image on every page, but you couldn't do
it if you wanted a different image on every page. You don't seem to be able
to do a placeholder for a picture on the slide master. I tried by doing it
in a template as well, and that didn't work.

That would be able to half your tinkering time at least!

Sherri,
You cannot change the layout of the slide master. You have two layouts for
the masters: The content one and the title one. Each has its own master.
However, animations you apply to the main placeholder, should apply to
whatever placeholder is on the layout you use.

If you select the placeholders on the master, you can apply animations to
them. So, if you apply the animation you need for the text to the title
placeholder and then the animation you need for the photo to the other
placeholder, you should get the results you want on each slide.

As to the text sneaking off the slide before the photo, you will need to
play around with the timing to get the two exit animations to work together.
My theory is that it takes less processing to move the text than the photo,
so the text moves slightly faster than the photo.
