I can not see my my background nor the clip art I insert into PowerPoint in
the screen I am working in. But, it is showing up in the thumbnails. Not
doing me much good there when I'm trying to teach. I am using 2003 version.

Make sure you have the latest Office 2003 Service Packs installed.

Try turning down hardware acceleration.
