sleep

Just recently and for no apparent reason when I revive my computer from
sleep mode, instead of the desktop appearing as before, I now get the
"switch user option " which I have to click in order for the desktop to
appear.

Running Vista Home Premium SP1.

Anyone have any idea why this has happened, or how do I return things to
their previous state.

Anyway, I already have the correct parameters set in "Power Options" ie:
no
password required on wake up.
I should explain that when the switch user window appears on wake up, by
using the "enter key" brings up the desktop.
I just want the desktop to appear immediately.
Perhaps not very well explained but you will get my drift!

No worries. I'm not immune to forgetfulness either.

The fact that you can just press the 'enter' key, from the logon screen, is
probably due to the fact that you've not currently set a password for the
account, which is probably no big deal.

Anyhow another setting that can also affect this is the 'Screen Saver'
setting

Right-click desktop > Personalize > Screen saver

In that 'Screen Saver Settings' dialog box, ensure that the 'On resume, show
the logon screen' is unchecked.

Checked the screensaver dialog box and I am set for "None", also the "On
resume display Logon Screen" box is unchecked.
You are correct I have never set any password. My memory tells me that I
had this same thing happen some time ago but I cannot remember what I did to
stop the logon screen.
I had some problems a week ago and had to resort to use "System Restore". It
seems that something happened then to cause this. But what?

Thanks for your interest, I would be grateful for any more suggestions.

Hmm... bit of a mystery.

System Restore might still be a good option, if you still have a suitable
point available.

Can't think what else would cause it, but I'll sleep on it (sorry, a bad
one) and if anything else occurs to me, then I'll post it in.

Well thanks Jon, I am going to resort to google for the moment. I am sure
I am not the only person to have had this happen. I have had some good
results in the past by using google. I will post if I can find a solution.

Good idea.

I'm none the wiser after my sleep, unfortunately, but would be interested
to know if you do discover the solution ...

Here's one more setting you could try, which is generally for autologon (ie
to avoid a welcome screen at startup), but may have some indirect bearing on
the situation (it would require setting up a password for the user account
you wish to autologon though) ....

Unchecking the 'Users must enter a username and password to use this
computer' via

Start button > control userpasswords2

and selecting the account for autologon.
