Hi,

I encounter that Vista (Home Premium) goes to sleep even though some
programms are running. Namely Limewire which is downloading files.

If you would like to disable sleep mode please follow these steps:

1. click on start (the orb button)
2. click control panel
3. change control panel to classic view
4. and then find power options and double click it
5. in the left hand strip half way down it should say "change when the
computer sleeps" click this and choose the options neccassary.

Please reply back to this post if you were either successful or unsuccessful
thanks.

It happens because Windows believes your computer is idle, even though you
are downloading files. I haven't spent much time solving this - and couldn't
find a solution - so I just set the computer to sleep after more time (like
4-5 hours).

The timings are 15 minutes. But I suppose that means after 15 minutes of
inactivity. However the computer is active since Limewire is running. On my
previous XP the computer wouldn't go to standby as it would consider the PC
to be inactive only if no such application like Limewire is on.

Any other ideas?

Cheers,
P

Hi Pete,

I'm not at my Vista computer to check this, but see if there aren't some
settings
that controls what Vista thinks is inactivity. Maybe it's set to ignore
certain
process types when deciding to go into sleep mode. Since I'm not at my
Vista computer this is a total guess, and may have no basis in reality.

I think thats the issue too. But I can't seem to find where those settings
are. They are not in the power option settings.

Well, XP was recognising Limewire download activity perfectly. I wonder what
happens if you download in IE for a long time.
