Slave drive not there after XP instalation

After installing windows xp i can not acces my storage hard drive. when i
click on the drive in windows explorer it says "the disk in drive D is not
formatted. Would you like to format now? I have about 40 gigs of stuff i need
on that drive. please help

how does it show up in disk manager
go to start run
compmgmt.msc /s

does it show the drive there if you right click can you import?
