When I start a Skype call on Vista my cpu goes crazy and uses 100%

this is a known problem with skype and the advice are many

One of them is to disable The speech recognition - but how do I do that ?

Hubba,

More than admire your tenacity.

Very likely, when the Microsoft Vista retail Version arrives, third party
conflicts will greatly diminish; additional third party drivers are included
within the retail Version.

Can not remember if previously I asked if you had experimented with the
“Start Search†Feature immediately above the Start Button; if not try that
Vista Feature for instantly receiving responses for most any desired result,
including Speech.

Seriously, absent third party apps, today, Vista Beta performs flawlessly.

Wish that I could offer better assistance; today, it's those third party
apps that create so many conflicts for Vista Beta.

Hubba,

Forgot sharing the CPU situation is somewhat normal and should settle down
within a few moments to minutes, or, until the app has completed the initial
surge of processing.

What known problem? Skyype works fine with Vista. Download the current
version of the client software.

I use Skype without any issue like that.

IIRC, when I first tried Skype, when it first came out, it was using a lot
more CPU time (but the computer I was using then was far less powerful). I
read that this was due to some people on the network becoming 'supernodes'
or something, which were used to channel call data for many other users.
But I think that happened all the time, rather than only when you were
making a call.

I do not know if this is still how Skype works, but I know how to stop
becoming a supernode. Are you directly connected to the internet using a
broadband modem? If so, get behind a NAT router.

I recently got the full version of Windows Vista Home Premium and I use Skype a lot to call foreign countries, and I didn't have any problems with windows XP. But now with Vista, my machine goes crazy and it's CPU goes off the chart! Can you tell me which port you opened on your nat? Thanks!

Kent.
