Skype Installation

A friend has skype on his Apple, and he wants to see if I can join him with
XP. I installed it, and cannot even to the test call to the UK. When he
found me with a search it showed not connected. When I pull down the menu
with such choices, the connected was greyed out. To me that suggests I am
connected. Am I being stopped by the XP firewall, or maybe something in
SBC's DSL gateway?

Rebooting the system got this underway. I can communicate with an Apple
user; however neither of seem to be able to hear one another.
