Skip "Welcome Screen" at boot up

XP Pro, SP2

Just reformatted HD, and reinstalled OS, and am trying to get my notebook
back in shape.

When I boot up, I get the Welcome Screen, which requires me to click on my
(one and only) user account. I know there's a way to skip that, but can't
remember how....

OK. Followed directions (the "contol userpasswords2" method). But now, it
automatically logs on to the "Administrator" account, and not my personal
one (which is also at the admin level).

Is there a way to specify which account gets logged on?

I could be wrong, but it seems like you can type the name of the user after
you clear the check mark and press apply. Then type in your user name and
your password. Try that.

Well, that's rather unusual.

Excerpt from the referred MSKB article 315231:

| 3. Clear the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this
| computer" check box, and then click Apply.
| 4. In the Automatically Log On window, type the password in the
| Password box, and then retype the password in the Confirm Password
| box.

IIRC, the "Automatically Log On" dialog box allows to enter both user
account that you want to log in automatically, and the password as well.

1. Go to Start | Run and type in: control userpasswords2 | Ok.

2. On the Users tab, clear the Users Must Enter A User Name And Password
To Use This Computer check box and then click OK.

3. In the Automatically Log On dialog box that appears, type the user
name and password for the account you want to be logged on each time you
start your computer.

You can accomplish the same thing by:

Download and install tweakui for xp and use its auto logon feature.

Lastly you can add the Dialog box that comes up when running control
userpasswords 2 to the Control Panel with the following tweak:
