Hi,

Looking for some advice please.

I'm fairly new to digital photography and I own a Pentax Optio 555. The
maximum resolution is 2592 x 1944.

Fairly soon, I am going to get some images reproduced using an online
printing service but what I would like to know is how the image will
look when printed on a 6x4 or 7x5. How does it all work?

Do I need to resize the images myself to a certain size prior to
uploading the images to the online printing service? If so, is there
any free software that will help me get it right?

Many thanks,

You usually have to crop the image so it has the dimensions 3:2
(Your maximum resolution 2592x1944 has the dimension 4:3)

Some cameras has a 3:2 resolution setting,
look in the camera settings after that.

Many online photo printing service has programs where you can see
how a image is going to look as a 6x4 or 7x5 print, and let you crop
the image so it fill out the paper.

There a bunch of good freeware programs that can assist you
with cropping the image.

FastStone Image Viewer has a very efficient Print Set up as well as the
Crop Board. Just used it this afternoon and discovered my darn Canon
Pixma iP4000 printer will override the settings put together in FS
viewer...what a pain! A borderless potential print in the viewer takes
on a not centered as a result of the borders inserted from the printer.
The actual software that comes with the printer will give a borderless
print on either 8*10 or 5*7 of the exact same picture...go figure!
