Sizes of. avi files

I have almost 2 hours of video that I have pieced together in Movie Maker.
Saved as a WMV it is about 750MB (incl. transitions, pics and a music file).
I wish to burn it to a DVD to show on a TV and save it as an .avi file. This
file, however, is about 30GB, so I cannot save it to a DVD obviously. Seems
I can only fit about 8 minutes on the DVD. I find this hard to believe.
What's going wrong here? I realize that2 hours may be pushing it but I would
certainly expect to be able to put 1 hour on a DVD without problems. Can
anyone help?
Thanks,
Klaus

The conversion is done with your
authoring software. Nero, ULead,
WinDVD, ProShow Gold, etc.....

A single layer DVD 4.7 GB will hold
approximately one hour of video.

Your two hour file would have to be:

#1) Compressed by your authoring
software which would result in loss
of resolution.

#2) Split and burned on two single
layer DVD blanks.

Or...

#3) Burned on a double-layer DVD
blank which requires...a double-layer
DVD blank and a double-layer burner.

Thanks Much. I didn't realize that the DVD software compressed the file. In
that case my particular problem is really more about harddisk storage space
when you save the .avi file (and regarding having 2 hours, I can easily
split that up and burn on 2 disks). Will try today....

Thanks for your help.
