size of memory used to open a large table with ado .net

This is a question for sql server 2000 and vb .net and xp pro, so I am
posting to all ng's.

Is there any way of knowing or approximating the amount of memory exhausted
in retaining a large disconnected (ado .net) table/dataset? It a .dbf file
is in memory, I could identify the size of the file directly, but with sql
server 2000 and the swapping technologies of windows xp pro, I only know the
size of the .mdf, which is of no value. Say the .mdf is 4.6 gig and it
contains 160 tables, 200 sp's, a few view, triggers, etc. One table - a
large one - has 25 cols and 1.2 million rows. Its physical size is no where
designated. I load this in a vb .net app into a dataset. It takes a long
time, obviously.

But once loaded, approx how much memory has been used? Did it write xml and
is it continually swapping out to get the appropriate xml and then display
it, allow changes to it, etc?

You've only posted this message to this group. If you have the same
message posted to others, you will have to check each one indiviually for
an answer. Furthermore, we can't see their responses and they can't see
ours.

It's ok to cross-post by selecting a well chosen set of newsgroups.
Multi-posting (which is what you've done) is much the weaker option.

I guess you haven't been climbing the threads so much. I'm not
saying these things to/about Herfried for fun. I would like him to stay
away from me and he insists on his right to pester me. [Carries on for
another hour explaining the situation ...]

All I want is for Herfried to not post <anything> in response to
<any> of my posts. Like I don't exist to him. I'm curious what he'd
say if you were to ask him if he can do that. So far he's said no,
except once. But he's apparently forgotten or taken his words back.

except that ten days is now too short a time.

It hadn't been going very long when Herfried broke it. Then he did so
again yesterday and today. I will throw the truce in the bin if he wishes.
If he wants to antagonise me then my quotes are just one way in which
I can devalue the truce. If he wants war I will give him that.

But if he wants peace, and I mean total peace - all 6 terms - then
that would be best for everyone. Can he see this though?? :-(

Unfortunately it's not a question or brightness - at least not in the
sense that you use it.

Hi Bernie,

Herfried winking there is just one small sign of how he fails to
understand that this is a matter affecting a large part of the group.
It seems to be a big joke to him. He simply can't take it seriously.
