Site Update using Blog 8.0

R. L.

Hi there,

First off, finally got sometime at hand to update my site and
put out a newsletter here

http://home.earthlink.net/~ringomei/

In addition to reporting the progress of some pieces that I
have put together myself, many entries will be devoted to
recommend or review freeware from other that I have personally
found useful. The page will be updated constantly, about once
to twice a week. Hope some might find something handy there.

Next, got to give credits to this wonderful program "Blog",
which I use to create my entries:

http://www.farook.org/Blog.htm

"Blog is an automatic web logging program which allows you to
update your site easily without the hassles of HTML editing
and having to use a separate program to upload your work. You
simply set Blog up with the necessary information for logging
into your site via FTP, define a template to specify the look
for your page and then type in your entries in the main Blog
window and click Publish and Blog does the rest! Blog also
handles the task of generating archival entries for older
posts. It is a really convenient way to keep a site (or
multiple sites) updated without going through several programs
to do the job."

I know one can easily create a blog using some free web
service like G-Blogger, but it is not the same to have your
very own blog hosted in your own space. In addition, I think
what is best about this program is that the new version allow
you run it in "server mode" so it can use a user's specified
POP server to handle visitors' comments directly without going
through a third party service. Excellent!

Any recommendation about websites to get started in blogging?

someone uses "Wordpress"
http://wordpress.org/

This one indeed looks pretty good - remember running into it
before and have thought about using it. However, I *think*
Blog does not really need your webspace host to have PHP or
SQL support, but for Wordpress you'll need that your host to
have either of them.

If you meant webservice, I've tried www.blogger.com, and it is
pretty good when compared to others. But if you want to use
the program Blog, you can use any webspace that you have. For
example, if your ISP gives you webspace for your personal
website, you can set up your own blog up simply through FTP,
too. Blog cames with blog templates so you don't need to know
*much* html to set your blog up. Yet, on the other hand, if
you don't do html at all, the webservice would be better.

This one looks nice, too. However, I looked at the
installation page, it again mentioned that it needs the host
to have PHP or SQL support. My guess is that perhaps most free
webspace and ISP space might have that support anyway, but I
am not really sure since I have not checked them out yet.

Thanks, R.L. I just like to read blogs and create/reply to a few.
bloglines looks like a place to start.
