When I switch on, there is normally a single beep.

Twice I have had a neenaw sound instead, like an ambulance siren. I
switched off immediately and on restarting all was normal.

Should I worry and if so, what is the cause, what is the cure?

Advice would be appreciated

Most likely you have a fan that is failing. Allow the computer to cool over
night. Then, take the side off of the case. Look in the case as you start
your computer. See if you can localize the source of the sound.

The common fan locations are:

1. In the power supply
2. On the CPU cooler
3. On the video card
4. On the front of the case (intake fan)
5. On the rear of the case (exhaust fan).

Thank you. I will loosen the side of the case and copy your advice. Then,
when it happens again, I will be ready to locate the source of the noise.

You may never have this problem again. Murphy's law says you fixed it by
looking for it.
