Do you have XP Home? You won't have the option to disable Simple Sharing
in XP Home.

What does "not possible to access files" mean? Do you get an access
denied error?

If one of the computer is XP Pro or Media Center and the other one is XP
Home, create identical user accounts/passwords on both machines.

Here is an excellent network troubleshooter by MVP Hans-Georg Michna:
http://winhlp.com/wxnet.htm

Take the time to go through it and it will usually pinpoint the problem
area(s).

connection and they both using the same internet connection throu a
router/gatway to a cable modem.
from desktop computer i can see and also oppen resources on both computers ,
there is no problem . but from labtap computer there i can see the resourses
on both computers but i got access denied messege when i try to access file
on the desktop computer. but no problem accessing files on it's own files (
laptap).
I have already been through the link you send but no success.

Did you not read my post? XP Home does not have a tab to disable Simple
Sharing. You also didn't say *where* the files are that you want to
share. Again:

XP Home does not permit sharing of users' home directories (My
Documents) or Program Files, but you can share folders inside those
directories. A better choice is to simply use the Shared Documents
folder.

Even though XP Home only authenticates as Guest, go ahead and make
identical user accounts and passwords on both machines. If you are not
currently using a password, set one anyway; you can always configure
automatic logon for convenience:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Autologon.htm

After you try the above, if you are still not able to share files and
Mr. Michna's troubleshooter did not resolve your issues, have a local
professional come on-site to set you up. Someone who knows what he is
doing and can see the computers will be able to sort things out in very
little time.

Malke:

Read most of most posts and learned a lot.

You mentioned in many of your replies"

"XP Home does not permit sharing of users' home directories (My
Documents) or Program Files, but you can share folders inside those

folder."

I have XP Home, and actually flagged "my documents" (home directory)
sharable in my network at home and at the office. Just right click on "my
documents", properties, and it it can be done. Didn't plan it this way, may
not be the best practice, and had I planned ahead, would have used "sharable
docs" instead.

Unless I read you wrong, the home directory can definitely be flagged
sharable, as that's the way I've set my system up.

Thanks for all your helpful hints.
