Simple question?

Sanjaya

Original MS Windows XP Home Edition pc, partially updated but not SP1 or SP2 complete due to lack of
interest and a dialup connection.

The MS WMF patch is out, but the website says for SP1 or SP2
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms06-001.mspx

The question is... can my NON-SP1/SP2 XP computer install the patch without damage?
I ask because the available information says for the SP updated versions of XP which the comnputer
in question isn't and never will be. But it *is* used for fairly safe web surfing and e-mail.

It would NOT be recommended.
See what happend when you are NOT up to date ?

Go to a friends house and download the full WinXP SP2 administators EXE version and the
GDI32.DLL fix in KB912919 (to mitigate WMF-Exploit) and burn a CDROM and then insall the
software on your PC.

Microsoft no longer support or release any updates for what's known as "XP
Gold", or non SP1/SP2.

I'm afraid that a Windows XP computer should not be considered "fairly
safe" if it has not got SP2 on it. Microsoft will send you a CD with SP2 on
it for a small charge, and I'm sure a local computer shop could help you
out as well :)

There was no charge when I got mine from MS and they encouraged to pass on
to a friend. If you can't locate a copy, post back.
