simple question about xp installation

I have windows xp home edition right now on my computer.
It was pre-installed when I bought it. I just got windows
xp professional and my question is, if I install xp
professional, will take away all my programs that I
already have installed?

The upgrade to XP Pro 'shouldn't' delete any programs or data files, but it might be advisable to backup any important data files that you do have. What kind XP Pro CD have you purchased? The reason I ask - if you have purchased an OEM version of XP Pro, you will only be able to perform a 'clean' install.
