simple network file and printer sharing problem

I have a LAN of two computers
computer 1 is connected to the internet via a broadband
modem
computer 1 is connected to computer 2 via a 100/10
ethernet card (or one in each computer!)
computer 1 is connected to a printer
computer 1 can access the internet
computer 2 can access the internet in the internet
connection it sees computer
computer 1 cannot access shared files or folders on
computer 2
computer 2 cannot access the printer or shared files or
folders on computer 1
the printer has been set to share with other computers.
Any ideas?
