Open the Forms toolbar ( View / Toolbars / Forms), click the checkbox (your
cursor changes in a + if outside the toolbar and on the sheet) and draw,
move the cursor to the place where you want your checkbox and left click and
draw your checkbox there.
Rightclick in that box and choose Format control to set the properties
(including the linked cell) as you want them.

Empty worksheet.
Enable Control Toolbox toolbar (View|Toolbars|Control Toolbox)
Select the checkbox and put one on your worksheet.
The most interesting bit is what to do with it.
One thing: select Properties for the Checkbox.
Put (say) A1 in the LinkedCell slot.
Close Properties.
Click on your CheckBox and TRUE or FALSE will show in A1 according t
the state of the Checkbox.
(Sorry: I've just realised I have spelled checkbox 3 different ways
Thank goodness Excel is sometimes a bit forgiving).
