Updates work fine and reports well on the main screen
However the update function can be run indefinitely
for the last version as it claims
that the update is always from 5733....

What you can do is to clean the temp folders (usually C:\Documents and
Settings\username\local settings\temp and c:\Documents and
Settings\username\local settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 and
delete all the files in those directories and subdirectories). Then try to
perform the update again.

If it does not help, there is a manual update procedure. Follow these steps:

Right click on MSAS icon within systray and choose shutdown.
Right click and "Save target as..."
http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcDeterminationData.gcd
http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditScanData.gcd
http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditThreatData.gcd

Copy/paste these files to Program files/Microsoft Antispyware
Restart MSAS and "check for updates"
If the http:// does not work, try https:// instead..

Thanks for the direct http download. But is this 3 files
the only ones that i need to download. What about other
GCD files inside the app folder?

You need only those three files - they contain current signatures (malware
definitions) for MSAS.

Other gcd files contain configuration settings, I suppose.
