Signal Not Found

Whenever I try to restart my new computer, it comes up with an error saying
that the signal is not found and then it stays on a blank screen until you
manually turn the power off. It also shows this when you shut down the
computer, but it doesn' have a chance to freeze up before it shuts down.
Does anyone know anything about this problem/Can anyone help me fix it?
Thank you in advance.

Check that the video cable is correctly connected to the monitor and on the
PC. Next, make sure the graphics card (if not on-board) is firmly seated in
it's socket.

Thanks, I just tried that but it still didn't help. I don't think that this
problem has anything to do with my monitor or graphics card, but I won't rule
that out completely. If it helps, I can explain my situation a little bit
further: I just installed SP2 on my new Dell povilion a530n, and then I did
some live updates on Norton Antivirus. Anyone else had this problem or know
how I can fix it?

Signal not found is a complaint from your monitor that the requisite video
signal, needed to drive the monitor, IS NOT present. It certainly does have
to do with your video card or it's connection - if you see this
"immediately" upon turning on the computer!

Well not a fix but a similar problem. I too have updated to sp2 and use
Norton. Mine happened when I got back from holiday.

It booted up the first time ok but then hung at the password screen after
about 20 mins when i got distracted with another job. It then failed to
bring up the monitor about 4 times. It was missing that "click" you can hear
just before the screen comes on. I switched off took the cover off ( and
left it off) and checked that everything was seated ok. I had 2 more
attempts that night with the same results. The next day I had several more
attempts and then that night it just booted ok and I've had no problems
since?

So its still a mystery. The only logical thing I can think of is that when I
booted up the first time the warmth caused a higher humidity than normal (
the house was a bit cold when we got back), but having searched the internet
I cant see anyone else having a problem with it. I secretly think it was
sulking as I left it behind lol!!

My first thought was the graphic card, then possibly the psu but its been
running fine since 3rd week in Sept.???

)
