sign on error

I am using W2000 Professional. For the last few weeks,
every time I logged into my computer, it would say that
the .dll could not load and that there was some type of
registry failure and then it would sign into a temp
signon. Now it's not giving me any message at all and it
will not load my profile, only the temp profile. I have
tried adding SP4 for W2K. This did not work. I don't
know what else to do...I need to get into my profile! Help!

If the profile is corrupt, you can rename it and the new .001 profile(while
logged on as local admin), then when the user logs on again a new profile
will be created from the image in \default user. You can then copy over the
items you need from the corrupt and or orphaned profile. Copy the folder
contents not the folders themselves. When your sure you have all you need,
you can delete the renamed profile(s). Use the import function of your
e-mail software.

does anyone know if there is a way to recover my original
login though. I used to be able to log off of the temp
login and then try to sign in again and it would work.
But now it will only let me use the temp login. Is there
some type of virus that could cause this? I have tried
researching this and there is nothing on it. I know that
I can get the files, but if there is any way I can recover
my original login, that would be the best. Thanks!

After you delete or rename the damaged profile a new profile will be created
from the image in \default user. What is it you think you'll be missing?

well, I am just concerned that I may forget something...
but I guess if I forget it, it wouldn't be that
important... I will try what you suggested. Thank you!

No need to delete the orphaned/ corrupt profile now. Save it for a couple of
months or so.
