SIDS show instead of user names

Hi Vincent -

I used Netdom to reset the account and the utility acknowledged that the
secure channel was reset, but it didn't fix the problem.

I'll try removing it and then adding it back to the domain, but I will have
to coordinate that with the server admin, because of the reboot.
If that doesn't work I think I next will try loading the default security
template to see if that solves it.

Thanks.

Success!
Simply removing the server from the domain and rejoining it solved the
problem. Sidtoname was very helpful in that it is the only thing that
suggested any problem with the domain membership.

Interestingly, I had a hard time rejoining it. I got a message saying "The
account is not authorized to log in from this station." after supplying the
credentials for adding a machine to the domain. Yet another reboot seemed to
fix that. This server was moved from an old NT resource domain to AD just a
few months ago and I believe the problem may have existed right from that
point on.

By the way, we had another problem on the server that popped up around the
same time as the user name problem; File Services for MacIntosh would not
start. For some reason that problem cleared up as well. I assume it was
fixed by the reboot, but we had tried that before with no success.

Thanks for all your help. As it turns out, it would have taken about 15
minutes to solve the problem if I had thought to do the (usually) simple task
of rejoining it to AD in the first place.

Cheers.
