Sidebar Smudge?

Is there a fix for what I refer to as the "Sidebar Smudge", where there is a
dark bar from top to bottom with the sidebar turned on?

All I've seen is the stuff described in its properties dialog box. You can
make it a solid bar or that fading look. Take it in and out of hiding. When
the sidebar is open right-clicks its Notification Area icon and choose
Properties. Click "How do I customize the sidebar?" in the dialog box that
opens.

You could try detatching the gadgets that you want and then hide the sidebar.
That wiyll leave the gadgets where you put them.
